A Custom Post Permalinks Haiku

In the estimable line of Automattic, I’ve written a haiku for my Custom Post Permalinks plugin:

Post type permalinks:
Out of the box, they are bland.
Give your links flavor.

New Plugin: Custom Post Permalinks

I just released a new plugin for WordPress this morning. It’s called ‘Custom Post Permalinks’. Custom Post Permalinks gives you the option of customizing the permalinks used by your non-hierarchical custom post types (post types that act like blog posts). The default permalink structure used for custom post types is /post_type/name/, but with this plugin you can easily modify it to something more like /post_type/year/month/name/. All of this is done through the admin section’s normal permalinks settings page, so you can manage all your permalinks in one place. Easy as pie!

Even better: if you add things like year and month (or day, hour and second!) to your custom permalink settings, it automatically sets up those archives! It also automatically adds permalink structures for feeds, comments, and pagination!

I’ll be setting up a static page for the plugin soon. Keep your eyes peeled.

Special thanks go out to Aaron Jorbin (@aaronjorbin) for helping me with the code. The plugin would be nowhere near where it is now without him. Also, if I hadn’t known he might be looking at it, I may not have documented it as thoroughly as I did…
;)

Best Morning Commute EVER

In case you don’t live in DC or are one of those people who have the ability and luxury of sleeping late into the morning, there was an enormous thunderstorm in the DC area this morning. The best summary I can think of is Aaron Jorbin’s (@aaronjorbin) comment on twitter:

I think I might have seen animals marching in pairs getting on the metro this morning

Anyway, I was driving into work this morning, and I have to say that the commute was great. Here’s why:

  1. Free light show on my way into the city
  2. Free car wash on my way into the city
  3. Everybody was super cautious on the roads

I deliberately interpreted their caution as being polite. Because it made the commute even better.

And now the sun is coming out too.

Goodbye to Facebook

So I’ve officially deleted my facebook. It’s nice to be done with it all. My fiance has been saying such aggravating things as “I’m not engaged to you anymore.” I don’t really expect her to understand the open source question, since it’s too wrapped up in the programming; amusing nonetheless.

Apparently I’m missing out on all the fun anybody could have in the world. Never mind the fact that I haven’t posted anything on Facebook in months, and the only reason anybody sees my profile is because my twitter feed cross posts to facebook automatically.

I look forward to devoting more time to this site and making it more than just a landing page with no information.

Custom Post Types and Better Permalinks

You’re probably looking for some code about custom permalinks. Don’t. Just don’t. I’ve taken it down. Look on some other website.
